Fight for what’s left of America

Fallout 5 is an action-packed role-playing video game wherein you must survive the post-apocalyptic world. Developed by Bethesda Game Studios, this 3D game is part of the popular Fallout game franchise and is the fifth installment of its main series.

Similar to its predecessors, Fallout 5 features another adventure into Earth’s devastated but healing environment as you traverse and stay alive with only your skills and allies to aid you. It involves the series’ standard gameplay of first-person and third-person shooting for the combat, while also allowing players to interact with various factions throughout the plot.

When you carry the fame of the name

Fallout is a series of post-apocalyptic action role-playing games first created by Interplay Entertainment. The franchise is set during the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd centuries, with an “atompunk” retro-futuristic setting and in-game artwork that are highly reminiscent of the post-war culture of the 1950s United States. Regarded as the spiritual successor to the 1988 game, Wasteland, Fallout features the Earth—specifically America—as a war-torn battleground that players must explore.

The main series typically had its different protagonists become entangled in the political side of the plot as tensions rose between the remaining factions of America. While each game was usually developed by a different studio, the gameplay eventually evolved from 2D isometric graphics and turn-based combat to  3D graphics, a free-roam gaming world, and real-time combat—further earning it fame as an RPG series, similar to The Elder Scrolls

Its spin-offs were also well-received by fans, especially Fallout: New Vegas. The MMORPG entry known as Fallout 76 had a disastrous reputation, however, due to the numerous bugs and cheats that plagued the community. As a large franchise by Bethesda, Fallout 5 is expected to be highly similar to Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 in terms of graphics, story, and gameplay—although this also won’t make it stand out against them.

The players’ hopes and dreams

All in all, Fallout 5 is expected to bring back the hype surrounding the Fallout series and hopefully lessen the negative attention that’s still prevalent on Fallout 76 with its presence. While it will be following the style and vibe of its predecessors, that’s not necessarily a bad thing as the Fallout franchise usually dominates the post-apocalyptic retro-futuristic scene in video games.

PROS

  • Realistic but gritty 3D graphics
  • First-person and third-person shooter gameplay
  • Heavy role-playing elements
